Meet Al
Hi, I'm Al, the man behind Elmwood Handyman Services. It's great to meet you.
A bit about me
Hi, I'm Alastair Tennant, Harrogate-born handyman, craftsman and founder of Elmwood Handyman Services. I believe that great workmanship starts with trust, reliability and genuine customer care.
After a successful 30-year career in engineering and manufacturing—including growing a local business into a major supplier for companies such as BMW, Nissan and Caterpillar— I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to step away from managing people and return to doing what I enjoy most: creating quality work with my own hands and delivering a service I could personally stand behind.
My goal at Elmwood Handyman Services is to provide homeowners across Boroughbridge and North Yorkshire with a dependable, honest and fairly priced service. From bathroom and kitchen renovations to garden rooms, bespoke outdoor spaces and general handyman work, every project is completed with the same care, attention to detail and pride.
"Fixing things and solving problems is my hobby and my passion and now I get to do it as my job. "
- Al, Founder of EHS
A lifelong Yorkshireman, I'm passionate about supporting my local community and helping people create spaces they can truly enjoy. Clients value my straightforward approach, skilled workmanship and the reassurance of dealing directly with the person carrying out the work.
When I'm not working, you'll find me following rugby and Leeds United, or taking on new challenges—having recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and raised over £4,600 for charity in memory of a close friend.
At Elmwood Handyman Services, you're not dealing with a large company or a team of subcontractors. You're dealing with me (known as Al to friends and clients alike), reliable, trustworthy, experienced, and committed to doing the job properly.
